Greiner Construction was hired by Aparium to provide Pre-Construction and Construction Services for the historic renovation of a warehouse in Downtown Minneapolis into the premier Hewing Hotel. Located on the zero lot line, this luxury boutique features 124 rooms.
Greiner worked closely with the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) to preserve the historic windows, structural timber framing, and exterior masonry of the building. Subsurface micro piles were also added throughout, as well as additional structural reinforcements on floors 4–6 and the rooftop patio.
Hotel amenities include:
- A spa/pool
- A full bar
- A sauna on the rooftop
- The full-service Tullibee restaurant with butcher room and hearth oven
- A wine cellar
- Two private dining rooms
- A fireside lounge
- A library
- A board room
- A junior ballroom and dance floor on the main level
- A fitness center
- A massage parlor
- Guest rooms featuring refurbished exposed wood ceilings and a preserved brick exterior
One of the unique aspects of this project is the domestic water Integrated Piping System – one of the very first to be installed in the Twin Cities.
This project was delivered by the successful partnership of Senior Project Manager Chris Bristow and Superintendent Dan Long.
